Honda Odyssey Key Replacement in San Diego

For a 2018 or newer Odyssey, a smart key comes to $239 in your driveway, against roughly $480 from a Honda dealer. The 2011 to 2017 remote head key is $179.

An Odyssey key often does more than lock and unlock. On vans with power sliding doors the remote opens each door as well, and every one of those buttons gets paired in the same visit, in the driveway.

Odyssey keys run through four eras: an edge-cut chip key until 2004, a laser-cut blade from 2005, a remote head key from 2011, and a push-start fob that reached the Touring trims for 2014 and the whole lineup with the 2018 redesign. Vans with seat memory may tie each fob to a numbered driver, Driver 1 or Driver 2. For a remote you already own, see key fob programming. A 1995 to 1998 van gets checked by VIN first, so text it to us.

Lost every Odyssey key?

An Odyssey with no key does not need a tow to the dealer. We decode the key from the VIN, cut it in the van, program the immobilizer, then pair the remote functions, sliding doors included. With nothing left, the $60 all-keys-lost add goes on top of the spare figure: $299 for a push-start Odyssey and $239 for a 2011 to 2017 remote head key.

A registration or title, plus an ID whose name matches, proves the van is yours. The lost key is removed from the van's memory free of charge, so a key left at a soccer field or a grocery store lot will not start your Odyssey for anyone who finds it.

Honda Odyssey key questions

Will a new Odyssey key open the power sliding doors?

Yes, on vans that have them. The sliding-door buttons are part of the remote, and we pair every button during programming, then test each door and the locks with you watching. A 2011 to 2017 remote head key is $179 and a push-start fob is $239, both with the door functions included.

Which Odyssey trims have a smart key?

From 2014 to 2017, the Touring and Touring Elite came with push-button start and a smart key, while other trims kept a remote head key. From the 2018 redesign on, the smart key covers the lineup. A dash with a start button means you need the $239 fob; a key slot means the $179 remote head key.

We lost the Driver 2 fob for our Odyssey. Do we need a new Driver 1 too?

No. On an Odyssey with numbered memory fobs each one is its own part, so only the Driver 2 fob gets replaced and programmed, and the Driver 1 fob you still have keeps working. Your stored seat and mirror positions stay in the van. Keep the working fob nearby while we program, so both can be tested on the van before we leave.

Does a 2006 Odyssey key cost more than a 2002?

Yes, by $20. The 2005 to 2010 Odyssey uses a laser-cut blade at $159, while the 1999 to 2004 van uses an edge-cut chip key at $139. Both prices cover cutting and programming at the van. Honda dealers generally land near $300 and $260 for the same two keys.

Why do the sliding-door buttons work when the key will not start the van?

Because the remote and the chip are two separate systems. The buttons talk to the door and lock module, while the chip in the head talks to the immobilizer, and a damaged chip can fail while the remote keeps working. We check both at the van and, if the chip is the fault, program a new key: $179 for a 2011 to 2017 remote head key.
