Honda Accord Key Replacement in San Diego

A push-start Accord fob is $239 at your car, where a Honda dealer quotes about $480. The 2008 to 2012 remote head key is $179, cut and programmed on the spot.

The Accord was the first Honda to get the laser-cut blade, for 2003, and the first with a smart key, for 2013. Between those came a separate-remote era and a remote head key, so the model year sets the part before we quote.

Memory-seat Accords add one wrinkle: each fob is coded Driver 1 or Driver 2, and the seat and mirrors follow whichever one unlocks the car. We bring the matching fob, program it to Honda's procedure and check that the seat moves before you pay. The smart key replacement page walks through that visit. A 1997 or older Accord is priced after we see the VIN, so send that first.

Model yearsTypical dealerValue Car KeysYou keep
1998 to 2002: Transponder chip keyAn edge-cut blade, a chip molded into its head, and a stand-alone remote for the locks. The engine checks the chip, so a key without one unlocks the door and does nothing else. $260 $139 $121
2003 to 2007: High-security laser-cut keyThe first Honda laser-cut blade, grooved down the middle. The remote is still its own fob; the key is $159, and a new remote you already bought pairs for $79 to $119. $300 $159 $141
2008 to 2012: Remote head keyBlade, chip and lock buttons in one head. We cut the blade to factory depth from the key code, so the wear on your old key is not copied onto the new one. $330 $179 $151
2013 to 2017: Smart key for push-to-start (Mostly EX and higher trims; the LX and many Sport cars kept a remote head key, $179)A push-start fob hiding an emergency blade. On cars with a memory driver's seat each fob is its own part, set to Driver 1 or Driver 2, so tell us which one went missing. $480 $239 $241
2018 to 2026: Smart key for push-to-start (Push-button start on every trim from the 2018 redesign)Every key for these cars is a smart fob. Trims with seat memory keep the Driver 1 and Driver 2 split, and the blade inside each fob is cut to your door. $480 $239 $241

Lost every Accord key?

When every Accord key is gone, nothing gets towed. The VIN yields the key code, the van's cutter shapes a new blade (the fob's emergency blade on push-start cars), and the immobilizer learns the new key in your parking space. On a memory-seat car we program whichever memory fob you lost, Driver 1 or Driver 2, so the seat still finds your settings.

No key adds $60 to the spare price: $299 for a push-start fob, $239 for a 2008 to 2012 remote head key, $219 for a 2003 to 2007 laser-cut key and $199 for an older chip key. A dealer needs the car on its own lot first, which means a tow at $125 to $200, and a back-ordered fob can keep it there one to three days.

Proof is the registration or title and an ID in the same name; before we go, the lost key is wiped from the Accord's memory at no charge.

Honda Accord key questions

Which Accord fob do I need, Driver 1 or Driver 2?

The one whose seat setting you lost. On Accords with a memory driver's seat, each fob is coded to one of two stored positions, and its label tells you which. If the Driver 2 fob is gone, we program a new Driver 2, so your seat and mirrors return to where you left them. Accords without seat memory take a standard fob, a different part.

Can you add a key to a 2003 to 2007 Accord with a separate remote?

Yes. The key is a laser-cut chip key at $159, and the remote is a separate part. If you bought a new remote, it pairs for $79 to $119. If you lost both, we make the key, sort out the remote in the same visit, and give you the total on the phone before we drive.

Why does my 2010 Accord key start the car when the buttons do nothing?

Most often the remote battery is flat while the chip, which needs no battery, keeps working. Swap the coin cell first; a parts store sells it for a few dollars. If a fresh cell changes nothing, the remote may have lost its pairing, which we redo at $79 to $119. If the transmitter itself has failed, a replacement remote head key runs $179.

Do all 2018 and newer Accords use a smart key?

Yes, push-button start came on every trim with the 2018 redesign, so each key for these cars is a smart fob with a blade tucked inside. Ours is $239 against roughly $480 at a Honda dealer, and the price covers cutting the emergency blade and programming the fob where the Accord is parked.

What does a Honda dealer add to an Accord key bill?

Usually two lines: the key as a part, and programming labor that runs $100 to $180 by itself. With no working key, add tow charges of $125 to $200 to reach the service drive. Our $179 and $239 prices already cover the part, the programming and the drive out to the Accord anywhere in the county.
