Dodge Challenger Key Replacement in San Diego

A 2015 to 2023 Challenger smart key is $249 where you park it; a Dodge dealer typically wants about $460. The 2008 to 2014 fobik is $189.

The modern Challenger ran from 2008 through 2023, and its key changed once, at the 2015 refresh. Before that it was a fobik you twist in the dash; after it, a push-start fob. Hellcat cars add a red and a black fob.

Each Challenger key gets cut, programmed and tested wherever the car sits, with the drive included, and a year of warranty covers the fob, the buttons and our programming work. Dealer pricing carries service-lane overhead; this breakdown shows where that money goes.

2008 to 2014: Remote head keyFobik years. Chip and remote share one plastic body with no fixed blade; it seats in the dash opening and turns to start. The price comes from the remote head row, $189, with the hidden door blade cut as part of it. $350 $189 $161
2015 to 2017: Smart key for push-to-start (SRT Hellcat cars ship with a red fob and a black fob, each quoted by VIN)The refresh brought a new cabin and push-button start. A slim emergency blade stored in the fob opens the door lock if the fob's battery gives out; it is cut to your code before the fob gets programmed. $460 $249 $211
2018 to 2023: Smart key for push-to-startThe security gateway years on most cars. A module bypass cable or a registered login gets us past the gateway, still inside the $249. Production closed with the 2023 Last Call cars. $460 $249 $211

Lost every Challenger key?

A Challenger without a single working key still skips the trailer ride. Bring your title or registration and ID that matches it; we extract the PIN, usually from the car's electronics, cut a blade to the code and program the new fob right there. A 2008 to 2014 fobik car comes to $249 and a push-start car to $309, which is the spare figure with $60 added.

The dealer path usually opens with a $125 to $200 flatbed ride, then a key bill near $350 for a fobik or $460 for a push-start fob, and a Hellcat fob that has to be special-ordered can leave you without the car one to three days. Once the replacement starts the engine, the lost fob gets erased from the Challenger, no charge.

Dodge Challenger key questions

My Challenger is a 2014. Does it take the fobik or the push-start fob?

The fobik. The 2008 to 2014 Challenger starts by pushing the fob into the dash and turning it, and that key costs $189 where the car is parked. Push-button start arrived with the 2015 refresh, and those cars take the $249 smart key. If your dash has a round start button, the smart key price applies whatever the year.

I only have the black fob for my Hellcat. Can a red one be added?

Possibly, and we check that against your VIN before promising anything, because the red fob is its own part number with its own programming. The red key opens up full output and the black key limits it, so the car has to learn exactly the right one. Once the part and the procedure are confirmed, you get a price and we pair it on the spot.

What does a Dodge dealer add on top of the fob for a Challenger?

Usually a separate labor line, plus a flatbed when no key is left. Figure about $460 for a Challenger smart fob, programming included, with that programming often itemized separately at $100 to $180. The flatbed runs $125 to $200 before the car ever sees the dealer's lot, and when the fob is back-ordered the car can sit for up to three days. Our $249 already includes blade cutting, programming and the drive out.

The Challenger will not start with the fob inside. Is the fob dead?

Check the fob battery first. A push-start Challenger that stops sensing its fob is most often running on a weak cell, and a new one costs little. If a fresh battery changes nothing, the fob gets tested first and then the car's receiving side. If the fob has failed, the replacement is $249, and if the fault is in the car instead, you hear that before we sell you a thing.

Will you program a Challenger fob I bought online?

Yes, provided it is new and carries the part number for your year. A fob already paired to another Challenger usually refuses a second car, so send us the numbers printed on the listing before you buy. Programming one you sourced yourself is $79 to $119, and our year of coverage on that job applies to the programming.
