Lost every Mazda key?
When the last Mazda key is gone, we pull the key code from the VIN, cut the blade or the fob's emergency insert to that code, and program the chip or fob through the diagnostic port. It is a $60 add-on. Bring registration or title, plus a photo ID showing the same name.
Once the new key works, we clear the lost key out of the immobilizer for free, and one picked up on Garnet Avenue will no longer start your Mazda.
What the dealer charges, and why
A Mazda dealer's number for a smart key sits near $480 before tax and a flip key near $320, and both carry programming billed as labor, typically $100 to $180 of the total. A keyless car rides a tow truck there for $125 to $200, and a back-ordered fob can hold it one to three days.
We come in lower because no showroom sits on our costs, fobs are bought direct, and cutting and programming finish in one stop at the curb. Mazda's chip type sits inside an OEM or OEM-grade part, and the one-year warranty applies to the key and the programming alike.
Two things we say on the phone first
Plan on a longer visit for many 2016 and newer Mazda smart keys. The car makes the programmer sit through a timed security wait, often around seven minutes, before it will learn a fob.
We quote a Mazda by VIN, not by model name alone. Trim listings show a 2016 CX-9 Sport with a turn key while the Touring above it has push-button start, and the 2010 to 2013 Mazda3 came with a flip key on some trims and push-button fobs on others.
