Car Key Replacement in El Cajon

We make chip keys from $125 and smart keys from $229 at the truck or car, anywhere in El Cajon from Fletcher Hills to Granite Hills. No tow to Main Street, no service appointment.

East County runs on pickups and high-mileage sedans, and El Cajon sits in the middle of it. F-150, Silverado, Ram and Tacoma keys ride on the van beside Civic, Camry and Accord chip keys, so most jobs end in one visit.

With every key gone, the usual advice is a flatbed to the franchise dealers on Main Street or North Johnson Avenue by the 8. Add up that route: $125 to $200 for the tow, one to three days parked whenever a key must be ordered, and $100 to $180 of programming labor billed on its own line. We quote a single figure on the phone, drive out and finish at the vehicle.

That figure covers the drive, the key, the cutting and the pairing, and the one-year warranty covers every part of it. The blank is an OEM part or an OEM-grade match with the correct chip, paired using the procedure the dealer runs. Payment is card or cash, collected after the engine runs on the new key, and the full price table is public.

The job happens where the car is parked.

Parkway Plaza, Gillespie Field and the college lots

Plenty of key jobs here start in a parking lot, not a driveway. Parkway Plaza off Fletcher Parkway is a regular meeting point, and so are the student lots at Grossmont College next to Fletcher Hills and at Cuyamaca College on Rancho San Diego Parkway. A student who calls has often lost the only key already, so bring a registration and a photo ID that match.

Gillespie Field is the weekday stop. The business parks around the airport hold aerospace suppliers, manufacturers and the Taylor Guitars factory on Gillespie Way, and a key can be made in the employee lot while you stay on the clock. Send the building number and the row, and we text when the van pulls in.

Before you tow it to Main Street

The franchise stores on Main Street and North Johnson Avenue, most of them a minute off the 8, are where East County drivers get sent for keys. Ford and Nissan are on Main, Kia and Mazda on Johnson. Being close does not help when nothing will start, though. The service department needs the vehicle on its lot, so a truck with no key rides in on a flatbed.

If the parts counter does not stock the key, it gets ordered and the vehicle waits. We cut by code and program on site instead. An F-150 remote head key is $169 with us against about $310 at a dealer, a Silverado or Sierra chip key $125 against $230, and a Nissan Intelligent Key $249 against $520.

Work trucks, older sedans and worn ignitions

Most of what we make in 92019, 92020 and 92021 falls into three groups. Work trucks come first: F-150, Silverado, Sierra, Ram 1500 and Tacoma, where a lost key costs a day on the job as well as the key. Then the 2000s sedans still running here, Camry, Corolla, Civic and Accord, where a spare chip key at $125 to $199 heads off an all-keys-lost bill later.

The third group is worn hardware. On a high-mileage truck the ignition cylinder can wear until the key has to be jiggled, and sooner or later a key snaps. Extraction is $89 to $149 with no drilling. A new ignition keyed to your existing key is $179 to $349, where a dealer usually wants $350 to $700 for the same repair, and the ignition repair page lists the warning signs.

El Cajon questions

What does a replacement truck key cost in El Cajon?

Most pickup keys land between $125 and $249 with us, made where the truck is parked. A Silverado or Sierra chip key starts at $125, an F-150 remote head key at $169, and a Ram with push-button start at $249. Dealers typically quote $230 to $460 for those same keys, and a tow gets added when no key works.

The key broke off in my ignition at work near Gillespie Field. What happens next?

Leave the broken piece where it is and call us, because pliers tend to push it deeper. We pull the fragment out of the cylinder without drilling for $89 to $149, then check that the cylinder still turns cleanly. The blade half often tells us the cuts; if not, the VIN gives us the factory code. The new key is priced separately, and you hear both numbers first.

I bought a used truck from a lot in town and got one key. Should I get a spare now?

Yes, and the math favors doing it now. A spare cut while you still hold a working key costs the spare-key price, $125 to $199 for most chip keys. Lose that only key before then and the job becomes an all-keys-lost job at $60 more, with registration and ID checked before we start. Used vehicles often change hands with a single key.

Do Rancho San Diego, Crest or Granite Hills addresses cost more?

No. Those areas carry El Cajon mailing addresses in 92019 and 92021 and pay the same as a driveway downtown. Every quote already includes the drive, and nothing extra is charged for distance inside the county. The only thing the address changes is the arrival window, which we give you on the phone before the van leaves.

Will a plain copied blade start my older Camry or Civic?

It will open the doors, and that is all it will do. Most cars from the late 1990s on carry a chip in the key head, and the immobilizer has to recognize it before the car runs. A blade with no chip, or the wrong one, fails that check. A programmed Toyota chip key is $129 and up with us, and a Honda one $139 and up.

What do I need to have ready if every key is gone?

A current registration or title, and a driver's license or other photo ID matching the name on it. With those we read the cut code off the VIN, run a blade on the van's cutter and teach the immobilizer the new key at the vehicle. Expect the spare price plus $60. The old key is struck from the immobilizer's list for free, and it will never start this vehicle again.
