GMC Yukon Key Replacement in San Diego

A push-button Yukon fob is $229 at the truck, where a GMC dealer typically quotes about $440. Chip keys for the 2007 to 2014 Yukon cost $125.

This page covers the Yukon and Yukon XL from 2007 on, the years that start on a Circle Plus chip key or a smart fob. Denali trims are included, since the key follows the model year and the ignition rather than the badge.

The Yukon shares its key parts with the Tahoe and Suburban of the same year. What the dealer adds is process: a keyless Yukon arrives on a flatbed, the programming lands on the invoice as its own labor charge, and an ordered fob keeps the truck in their lot for days. We program where it is parked, and the GMC key page covers the Sierra, Terrain and Acadia.

2007 to 2014: Transponder chip keyGMT900 generation. A Circle Plus chip key from GM turns in the column, while the lock buttons, and remote start on many trucks, sit on a remote that hangs beside it on the ring. A remote you already have pairs for $79 to $119. $230 $125 $105
2015 to 2020: Smart key for push-to-start (Push-button start mostly on upper trims such as the Denali; a turn-key Yukon of these years usually takes the $125 chip key, with its remote separate)K2XX generation, the Yukon's first smart key. The fob carries a liftgate button on trucks with a power liftgate and a remote start button where fitted, and a steel blade inside opens the driver's door. $440 $229 $211
2021 to 2026: Smart key for push-to-start (Button start is likely on all trims, SLE through Denali, and we confirm it by VIN)Fifth generation, with GM's newer fob and newer vehicle electronics. Adding a key can call for an online security session on these, so we confirm by VIN that our programmer covers your Yukon before we drive out. $440 $229 $211

Lost every Yukon key?

No key for a 2007 to 2014 Yukon means cutting a chip key to the code pulled by VIN, then GM's timed relearn on many of these trucks: the new key sits in the ignition with the security light on through several ten-minute stretches, about half an hour altogether. The price is $185, the $125 key plus $60; the wait is GM's, not a charge.

A push-button Yukon with no fob left is $289. We cut the emergency blade to the key code, program a fob to the truck, and drop the lost fob from the Yukon's memory before we leave, at no extra cost. Have the Yukon's registration or title ready, and a driver's license that carries the same name; the truck never leaves its spot.

GMC Yukon key questions

Does a Yukon XL take the same key as a regular Yukon?

Yes, model year for model year. The XL is the long-wheelbase Yukon with the same electronics, so a 2012 XL takes the same Circle Plus chip key as a 2012 Yukon, and a push-button XL takes the same fob as its shorter sibling. The prices are identical too: $125 for the chip key, $229 for the smart key.

Why does my 2017 Yukon have a key in the column instead of a start button?

Because it was built without keyless start. On the 2015 to 2020 Yukon, push-button start usually came on the upper trims, and trucks without it kept a turn-key ignition: chip key in the column, remote on the ring. That key is $125 at the truck, about $230 at a GMC dealer, and pairing a remote you have costs $79 to $119.

Will you program a fob for a 2021 or newer Yukon?

We confirm that by VIN during the call, before we drive. The 2021 and newer Yukon uses GM's newer electronics, which can require an online security session to add a key. When our programmer covers your truck, the fob is $229, or $289 with no key left, programmed in your driveway.

The Yukon's fob buttons quit but the truck still starts. Is the fob bad?

Probably not. When the fob still starts the truck but the buttons stop answering, a weak coin cell is the usual cause, and a parts store sells one for a few dollars. Swap it first; if the buttons stay dead, we re-pair the fob for $79 to $119. A fob that is cracked or lost costs $229 replaced.

We have one fob for our Yukon. Should we add a second?

Yes. A second fob is $229 while one still works, programmed next to yours in the same visit. Wait until no fob is left and it becomes $289, with ownership paperwork, and the Yukon waits where it is until we arrive. The spare key page lays out the math for every key type.
